Holiday Activities: Gingerbread House

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and ate too much just like we did!

Now that Thanksgiving is over with its time to really get thinking about Christmas and all the wonderful activities that come along with this joyous holiday. Today, Little Santa and I did one of our most favorite traditions around this time of year. We made a beautiful gingerbread house!

Heres a recipe below and feel free to decorate it any way you like, we use all sorts of candies and make it different every year!

Ingredients

6 cups all purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

4 tsp ground ginger

4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground allspice

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/2 sticks of softened butter

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar

2 eggs

1 cup molasses

1 tbsp water

Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to combine butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs, molasses and water. Mix in half of the flour mixture until well combined and then add the rest and stir. Let the dough sit in the refrigerator for at least two hours.

When finished let it sit for at least ten minutes then roll out and cut to desired house pattern.

Bake at 350 F for 11 to 15 minutes depending on the size of your pieces.

Once the baked pieces are cool and dry you can form your house with this icing using it as mortar. Then decorate and enjoy!

Icing ingredients

2 egg whites

2 2/3 cup powdered sugar

Mix together, keep covered because it will harden easily.
